Acanthosis nigricans

What is Acanthosis nigricans

Acanthosis nigricans is a disorder which is most often associated with being overweight. It causes light-brown-to-black, velvety, rough areas or increased skin markings usually on the back and sides of the neck.

Rarely acanthosis nigricans is associated with a tumor. Exact cause of this condition is not known.

Treatment of Acanthosis nigricans

There is no cure for acanthosis nigricans. Treatment to just improve the appearance includes Retin-A, 20% urea, alpha hydroxyacids, and salicylic acid prescriptions
